Before 2015 the access and internet connection to Cuba was really difficult, if not almost impossible. Today, although with some restrictions, you can access the wifi network quickly thanks to the Cuban phone company ETECSA which has installed numerous repeaters in many cities of the island.
In order to connect you to Internet you will need a prepaid navigation card “Nauta” or “Etecsa” which you will find at the airport or at the hotels (where the cost is higher).
The Internet access is very simple: once enabled wifi on your mobile phone or PC select the available network “Wifi Etecsa”. A page will open and you will be asked to insert User Id and Password which you can find on the card.
Once you have entered the required fields, you will be ready to surf the internet! Always remember to disconnect from the wireless network once you have finished browsing so you can use the remaining credit for another session.
In Cuba you can choose from three different types of internet cards:
- 30 minute card at 0.5 CUC
- 1 hour card at 1 CUC
- 5 hour card at 5 CUC
We remind you that no matter where you find the hotspot wi-fi, the internet connection in Cuba is never free and if you stay in a hotel you will need a prepaid card in any case.
Be careful, because hotels often give the possibility to purchase the card directly at check-in with a price higher than the Etecsa points.
There are about 700 wifi points in the Cuban territory and mainly within parks and public places. Below you will find a list of some public hotspots of Etecsa:
If you want to discover all the internet connection points in Cuba, you can find the full list on Etecsa website .
